The Site
A few years ago my Great-Aunt Frieda passed away. I inherited a notebook full of recipes that she had handwritten in the 1920’s when she was working as an apprentice cook in a castle in Northern Germany…or so the family legend goes.
This blog follows my journey to translate the cookbook; try the recipes; and research more about my family, what it’s like to work as a cook in a castle, and immigration to the United States in the late 1920’s.
